The Ramones did not have hits in the form of millions of sales during their prime; they were far too ahead of their time and a bit above most people’s heads. In fact, it has taken decades for the masses to come to realize what treasures these songs are. That, however, does not mean that Ramones Greatest Hits has to be an ironic title. One just has to define “hits” as songs that were popular with Ramones fans. These fans were special. They were generally ahead of the curve and hipper than the average record buyer. Many of them went on to start bands of their own, and some of these bands became famous. So these songs are genuine hits that a new generation of enlightened listeners can take pleasure in.

We were one step ahead of the game. It took the world to catch up to us. I knew it; our fans knew it. There are more hits by the Ramones than could fill the Top 100. Enjoy.

Marky Ramone
